How We Test

How We Test Cam Sites

Every Cam-Rank review is the output of a structured test protocol that we run ourselves with our own accounts and our own money. This page documents the protocol so readers can judge whether our scores are credible — and so platform operators know exactly what we're looking at.

The Test Protocol (Per Platform)

Phase 1 — Account Creation and Onboarding (Day 1)

  • Create a brand-new account with a previously unused email address — never a recycled account that might have a different history with the platform.
  • Time the signup process from landing page to first usable session. Note any required identity steps (email verification, phone verification, age gate).
  • Test signup on both desktop (latest Chrome on macOS) and mobile web (Safari on iOS 17+ and Chrome on Android 14+).
  • Record any signup bonus that is automatically credited (free tokens, free credits, free minutes). If a bonus requires action to claim, attempt to claim it and note the friction.

Phase 2 — Free Tier Exploration (Day 1–3)

  • Spend at least 90 minutes browsing the free experience without paying anything. We document what is genuinely free, what is paywalled, and what is presented as free but quickly funnels you to spend.
  • Watch at least 10 public chat rooms across different categories and regions to assess the consistency of model quality and the realism of the "live model count" the homepage advertises.
  • Test filtering and search (region, attribute, language, age range). Note any filters that exist but return empty results — a sign the catalog is smaller than advertised.
  • Test on a fresh browser profile to see what the experience is like for a first-time visitor with no cookies.

Phase 3 — Paid Show Testing (Day 3–7)

We spend a minimum of $50 of our own money on every platform we review. The breakdown:

  • Token / credit purchase — Buy the smallest viable package to test the entry-level payment flow. Then buy a larger package to test the discounted bulk-purchase flow.
  • At least 1 private show — Spend at least 10 minutes in a paid private show with a model who has high recent activity. Measure stream quality (resolution, latency), responsiveness to chat, and how the timer / billing is displayed.
  • At least 1 spy show (where offered) — Verify the cheaper alternative actually works and isn't a degraded experience designed to push you into private.
  • At least 1 group show / tip goal (where offered) — Participate in a freemium tipping economy event to assess the community dynamic.
  • Cam2Cam testing (where offered) — Verify two-way video works on desktop. Note if it works on mobile.

Phase 4 — Edge Case and Support Testing (Day 7–14)

  • Attempt at least one customer support contact — submit a real question (often: "Can I get a refund for an interrupted show?" or "Is my payment information secure?") and time the response. Document the channel (live chat, email, ticket) and the resolution quality.
  • Test account cancellation / deletion — does the platform make it easy to leave? Hidden cancellation flows are documented as a negative.
  • Test from at least one region outside the platform's home market to identify geographic restrictions or degraded experiences for international users.
  • Read recent (last 90 days) user reviews on Trustpilot, Sitejabber and Reddit to cross-reference our hands-on findings against the broader community.

Phase 5 — Scoring and Composite (Day 14)

Each dimension (see our Editorial Policy for the nine weighted dimensions) is scored independently by at least two team members. Disagreements are resolved by additional testing rather than averaging — if one tester says the mobile app is 6/10 and another says 8/10, we re-test together until we agree.

What We Disclose in Every Review

Every review on Cam-Rank includes a "How We Tested" section that discloses:

  • Total spend on the platform during testing.
  • Number of separate shows / sessions attended.
  • Test period (start date and end date).
  • Devices and browsers used.
  • Region(s) tested from.
  • Date of last full re-test.

If any of those fields is missing from a review, please email us — it's a documentation bug, not an editorial choice.

Re-Testing Cadence

Cam platforms change. A site that earned 9.4/10 in January may deserve 8.6/10 by November because of a redesign, a price hike, a model exodus, or a security incident. Our re-testing cadence:

  • Top 5 ranked sites: re-tested every 6 months.
  • Sites ranked 6-10: re-tested every 12 months.
  • After major site update or security incident: re-tested within 30 days of public news.

Reviews that have not been re-tested within those windows are flagged at the top of the review with a "Last full re-test" date so readers can judge the freshness.

Conflicts of Interest

We disclose financial relationships in every review's "How We Tested" section. The relationships fall into three categories:

  • Active affiliate — We have an active referral arrangement with the platform. Most major cam sites fall in this category. This does not change our scoring; see our Editorial Policy on commission independence.
  • No affiliate — We have no referral arrangement, often because the platform doesn't run a public program or because we have not been accepted as a partner. We still review these platforms and link to them with bare links (no commission) where they earn the recommendation.
  • Personal employment / equity — We do not have personal employment or equity stakes in any of the platforms we cover. If that changes, we will disclose it both on this page and in the specific review.

Updates to This Methodology

This testing protocol is reviewed quarterly. Material changes are noted at the bottom of this page with a dated entry. If you have suggestions for additional tests or dimensions we should add, please contact us.
